ABOUT

Collaborative experimentation. Real Impact.

The industry's experiemntation arm for sustainable streaming

WHAT IS ECOFLOW?

A new kind of industry alliance

Ecoflow X exists to bridge the gap between the sustainability commitments organisations are making and the practical engineering solutions needed to deliver on them. Most sustainability initiatives in media focus on measurement, reporting, or advocacy. Ecoflow X does something different: we run experiments. We test real approaches on real infrastructure, publish what we find, and build shared tools the whole industry can use. We operate across the full streaming value chain — from origin to encode, CDN to player, device to grid. Our focus is on energy: understanding what good and bad consumption looks like, what "good enough" means in practice, and how to make sustainability a normal part of how streaming systems are built and operated.Ecoflow X is a pre-competitive collaboration. We bring together organisations that are working on the same problems from different angles — broadcasters, vendors, CDN providers, industry bodies — in a space where no single organisation has all the answers, or all the data.

HOW WE WORK

Turning collaboration into outcomes

We operate as a pre-competitive alliance under the IBC Partner Programme. That means participants contribute to shared experiments, shared models, and shared frameworks that none could build alone.

Everything we produce is designed to be open and usable — published under open-source or agreed copyright terms.

We operate with no participation fees and a flexible, industry-driven structure.

Our phase runs to IBC 2026, where we will present our work and a proposal for Ecoflow to become a permanent standing organisation beyond the IBC cycle.

OUR HISTORY

A new kind of industry alliance

Ecoflow began in 2024 as an IBC Accelerator project — one of the industry's most prominent innovation frameworks. Over two phases (Ecoflow I and Ecoflow II), we built tools, models, and frameworks for measuring the energy impact of streaming, and demonstrated them at IBC 2024 and IBC 2025.In 2026, Ecoflow transitioned from the Accelerator programme into the IBC Partner Programme — retaining IBC's credibility and reach while gaining the independence and structure to operate year-round and grow into a permanent standing organisation.
